New York City One of First in US to Require Submetering

With New York City’s Local Law 88 (LL88) now in effect, the energy industry is watching closely to see what the impact will be.

Local Law 88 requires buildings that are 50,000 square feet or greater to upgrade their lighting and to install sub-meters.

Marc Karell from Climate Change and Environmental Services has a good article in Energy Manager Today that outlines the rationale behind LL88 and the expected benefits of submetering — which include reduction in overall energy use, better energy efficiency and improved landlord-tenant relations.
