> This Just In: Government of Ontario Releases New Submetering Regulations

The Government of Ontario has just released the following energy conservation regulations through its Energy Conservation Responsibility Act. They include these highlights:

  • All condominiums in Ontario must have individual submeters installed by the end of 2010.
  • Condo boards no longer need an 80 per cent approval vote from condo owners to install a submetering system.

Submetering for Condos

> New Triacta Microsite Caters to Information Needs of Condo Owners

These days, condo boards talk about a lot more than who's going to pay for the new walkway shrubs. They've got environmental issues to decide on. They debate the law, finances, and political issues - all from a community, municipal and national standpoint. And each member comes to the table with a unique point of view.

Confusing? Definitely. Especially when an issue comes up that nobody really knows all the facts about. Take the new submetering legislation that was passed last March. Condo owners are now required by law to install smart meters, but information about this legislation is hard to come by.

"It's not out there at all," says Jen Hassani, Triacta's Director of Marketing. "There have been a couple of news articles that people may have read, depending on whether or not they picked up the paper that day. I've even found confusion amongst reporters because they talk to a couple of different people and get a bunch of different stories. The legislation is, like most legislation, dense. So there's been no real sense of information."

Enter Triacta's new condo microsite. It provides consumers with real data, real facts, and an unbiased look at the new legislation. They'll learn what they're going to have to do, what to look for in suppliers, and what to avoid. The site will continue to be updated as new information comes in over the next year or two.

"From a corporate standpoint, I think it's good marketing," says Hassani. "It increases Triacta's brand and credibility by providing people with the kind of information that is verifiable and that they need to know."
