Triacta Wins Conservation Award

The Ontario Power Authority has recognized Triacta, the Rainbow District School Board and the Dearness Conservation Program with a Certificate of Recognition for energy efficiency at Valley View Public School, in Sudbury, Ontario.  Valley View Public School is a model for sustainable development and is a flagship school for environmental efficiency.  As part of its comprehensive conservation initiatives, the Rainbow District School Board has installed Triacta smart meters in five of its school, including Valley View.

Growing Demands for Green in the Desert
Triacta to capitalize on development boom in Middle East

Triacta has partnered with a company in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to distribute Triacta’s leading smart meter technology for multi-tenant buildings in this growing market.   Brayan Sabanz, Technical Equipment Trading Co., based in Dubai, will distribute Triacta products in the Middle East.

Dubai is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is presently experiencing a massive construction boom.  In a recent report issued by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, the demand for energy increased 24 percent in 2007, more than double the increased demand in 2006 (11 percent).  For the most part, new commercial and residential development is driving the increase in power consumption.

There has been a lot of hype over the benefits of smart metering for multi-tenant buildings such as condominiums, apartments and commercial buildings.  However, to extract the real value from smart meters, consumers need information that can help them to make wiser decisions and ultimately change bad energy-use intensive habits.

Getting more from your meter
Most utilities and billing companies provide consumers with time-of-use information in one-hour increments.  This is simply insufficient – hourly information does not provide the detail needed for consumers to understand their own consumption patterns.  While the hourly-increment approach reduces the amount of data collected and simplifies the billing process, it actually conceals useful information that would be of great benefit to consumers.
